Youth Law Centre ACT

what we do

The Youth Law Centre ACT is a free legal information, advice and referral service for people aged between 12 and 25 years. We offer free help by phone, e-mail and in person. We also can write letters on your behalf and help with some other steps you might decide to take in relation to your legal problem. The Youth Law Centre  does not provide legal representation in courts or tribunals. If we are unable to help you we will suggest other services which may be able to help.

If you have a legal problem, you can contact us by phone, email, or drop in to our office. What you tell us is confidential and we won't pass on information without your consent.

If you want to come in and talk to a solicitor, you can ring or email us for an appointment, or just drop in to our office between 1 - 4.30pm on a weekday.

more about us

Solicitors: Two solicitors work at the Youth Law Centre each weekday, one from Legal Aid ACT and one from Clayton Utz, a private law firm. The solicitors can advise you on a broad range of topics, including car accidents, debt, family, tenancy, criminal matters, traffic offences, employment, discrimination, protection orders.

Paralegals: Two paralegals, who are ANU law studnets, work at the Youth Law Centre each weekday.   Paralegals can't offer advice. They help the solicitors with their work and they are always very friendly.

Partnership: The Youth Law Centre ACT is provided through a partnership between the Youth Coalition of the ACT, ACT Legal Aid, Clayton Utz, ANU College of Law, and ANU Law Students Society. ACT Combined Community Legal Centres and the ANU Students' Association & Post Graduate and Research Students' Association Legal Service are also represented on the YLC Advisory Committee.
